Additional Service Points in grades 1, 5 and 6

In October 2012 the University and Assistants Joint Board (UAJB) agreed to appoint a Special Joint Negotiating Committee (SJNC) to review how the loyalty and skills of Assistant staff are rewarded.

These discussions resulted in an agreement to increase the service points of Grades 1, 5, and 6 by converting the lowest contribution point of those Grades to a service point from 1 January 2015, reflecting the fact that the University salary scales are wider at the higher Grades. It was also recognised that the lowest contribution point of Grades 2, 3, and 4 had been converted to a service point in January 2010.

The amendment to the salary scale was notified in Reporter on 20 October 2014 and was approved on 31 October 2014. Implementation arrangements were confirmed in Reporter on 11 February 2015 which clarified that those affected would receive an increment from 1 January 2015, not their normal incremental date. Adjustments will be made to affected employees salaries in the February 2015 payroll, backdated to 1 January 2015.

Please note that employees on the top service point of grades 1, 5 and 6, who have been successful in their application for a contribution increment in the current Contribution Reward Scheme exercise (effective from 1 Jan 2015), will receive this increment in addition to an extra service point as a result of the changes to grades 1, 5 and 6.
