Dear Colleague

Introduction of the University’s Shared Parental Leave Policy

I write to advise you of the introduction of the University’s Shared Parental Leave Policy. The Policy provides clear guidance for employees who become parents and wish to opt into Shared Parental Leave.

The aim of the Policy is to promote the University of Cambridge as an attractive employer with contemporary family friendly policies designed to advance good practice and a positive culture that supports parents as fully and flexibly as possible.

The Policy is available on the policies and procedures section of the HR website, replacing the Additional Paternity Leave Policy with immediate effect, http://www.hr.admin.cam.ac.uk/policies-procedures/shared-parental-leave-policy

The Policy was developed following University-wide consultation in addition to taking into consideration advice and feedback from the University’s Gender Equality Group, Equality & Diversity Committee, the Trade Unions, Legal Services and Human Resources. It was approved by the Human Resources Committee and the University and Assistants Joint Board in Lent Term 2015.
The Human Resources Division organised a series of briefing sessions for institutions to support the implementation of the Policy and offer guidance on its application. If you think it would be helpful for you to attend a session on Shared Parental leave, please contact Anna Crichton, HR Adviser, tel.no. 32886 or by email anna.crichton@admin.cam.ac.uk

I should be grateful if Institutions would inform their employees of the introduction of this Policy. A communication has been drafted for this purpose and enclosed as a separate attachment.

If you would like further information about the Policy or advice on a particular case, please contact your relevant HR School Team.

Yours sincerely,

Sheila Gupta
