Departmental procedures for sponsored individuals

Departments/Institutions who employee an individual through the Tier 2/Skilled Worker visa route and/or engage individuals through the GAE (Temporary Work) route must assist the HR Compliance Team in meeting the legally required record keeping and reporting duties.

These are also managed through the following procedures.

1. Right to Work checks

For both Skilled Worker and GAE (Temporary Work), a right to work check must be undertaken prior to employment/the visit commencing. The full procedure for this can be found on the right to work guidance webpages.

2. Communications with manager

Before the new employee/visitor starts, if their principal investigator/manager has not managed individuals under Tier 2, Skiled Worker or GAE (Temporary Work) before, then the Immigration and Compliance Manager will email the manager when the CoS is assigned to brief them on the University's sponsor duties.

3. Communications with employee

A letter detailing the individual's responsibilities as a sponsored employee/visitor will be provided by e-mail to the individual, alongside their CoS once assigned. This should be downloaded, completed and sent to the Compliance Team.
