If you are from one of the following countries and your stay is for longer than six months, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires you to register with the police following your arrival in the UK:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Yemen.

If you need to register with the police, you must register within seven days of arriving in the UK.

What you will need to register with the police:

  • £34 for the registration fee
  • Your passport
  • Your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
  • Two passport-sized photographs
  • Your contract of employment/invite letter from the University

The registration will be carried out by the ‘Overseas Visitors Registration Department’ at the following address:

If you are new to the UK, you must book an appointment in advance by emailing the Police Station at

The Police Station will respond with an allocated appointment time. If you have previously lived in the UK and have a police registration certificate but are new to Cambridge, or there is another change in your circumstances, you do not need an appointment and can update your certificate at the reception during opening hours
