Sheila Gupta MBE has been appointed the University’s Director of Human Resources.

Sheila, who succeeds Indi Seehra, takes up her position today after seven years as Director of Human Resources at the University of Edinburgh.

She has extensive experience of the UK higher education sector, having worked in five separate institutions in senior leadership roles as Director of HR or equivalent, including City University London and the Institute of Education, University of London.

The current chair of the Russell Group Human Resources Directors Forum, she was formally chair of Universities HR, the professional body for HR in higher education, on which she continues to serve as an elected board member.

Sheila holds a number of non-executive roles and has served as an independent member of the Education Honours Committee for a period of six years from 2007 to 2013.

She said: “I am delighted to be joining the University of Cambridge and to have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the institution in shaping and delivering an exciting and innovative HR strategy that supports the University’s ambitions.”

Jonathan Nicholls, the University’s Registrary, said: “I am delighted that Sheila will be joining the University as its next Director of Human Resources. She brings considerable experience and knowledge of people, leadership and the sector, which will benefit the whole University in the next phase of its development.”
