All staff

Today, UIS and the HR Division have launched a new version of Employee Self Service (ESS). ESS lets you update some of your personal details and check your payslips and P60s. The new version offers a modern look and feel and has a number of improvements over the existing version. A user guide is available at

You can log in here:

When you log in, we would like you to help us improve the quality of our data. Please take a moment to review your personal details. In particular, there are a number of data items that the University needs to include in statistical returns to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), which you can update at this URL:

Anonymous information sent to HESA is used by funding bodies, government and the media. The Funding Council requires us to provide complete and accurate data; however, the data we currently hold is incomplete for many staff. Information about how HESA uses this data is available here:

Collecting and monitoring demographic data about our employees (which you can update at

also allows the University to work intelligently to respond to the needs of staff. Using anonymous data allows us to:

  • identify key equality issues for the University;
  • assess our performance and benchmark against similar organisations; and
  • consider taking steps to meet the needs of our staff.

In order to further enhance security, UIS has changed the way you will log into Employee Self Service. You will still use your raven password, but the log in screen will look different.

If you have not updated your UIS (raven) password recently, you will need to update it before you can log into new self-service. If your password is complex enough, then you can make the new password the same as your existing password. You can do this using this webpage:

If you have any queries on ESS please contact: the CHRIS Helpdesk on or 60999.
