The aim of this guidance is to suggest ways in which the SRD process can provide personal support to the academics concerned, with those involved as reviewers offering helpful advice tailored to the individual in a constructive way, rather than an evaluation, and those being reviewed participating positively. A supportive approach is recommended in the paragraphs below, which is not dependent on ticking boxes or perceived to be so.

The benefits of SRD in terms of career development, review of academic duties and support, valuing contribution, improving communications and working lives are set out. It is for these reasons that the University wishes to encourage participation in the SRD process.
