This bulletin and its links provide important information on various recruitment and immigration matters.

Summary of the documents provided:

1) Immigration and Right to Work Update - for reference and action - this covers:

  • An additional form now being required when appointing Tier 4 students;
  • Expired passports no longer being accepted as right to work evidence for non-EEA nationals;
  • A copy of the front cover of passports no longer being required for right to work checks;
  • A free premium service being available for quicker turnaround of Tier 2 applications;
  • A reminder that that visas must have an entry clearance stamp to be valid for right to work purposes;
  • A change to salary determination for research assistant/research associate under-appointments;
  • A reminder of the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) auto-endorsement route; and
  • Notice of an expected audit by UKVI.

2) Guide to the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT) for Academic and Research Recruitment – for reference and communication within your department/institution – in recent months, there have been a small number of cases where the RLMT has not been met satisfactorily for a Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship application. Therefore, we have produced a short guide to assist those recruiting to academic and research role in understanding and meeting UKVI’s requirements. This will also be published on the Immigration web pages shortly.

3) Recruitment Update – for reference and onward communication within your department/institution – this covers:

  • Updated guidance on Market Pay and Advanced Contribution Supplements;
  • Details of a targeted advertising offer from ResearchGate (the document attached provides additional details on this item);
  • A reminder on right to work requirements, including for TES Payrollers; and
  • A reminder on qualification/professional registration checking in the recruitment process.
