The University of Cambridge provides a number of valuable employee benefits designed to enhance your total reward package. For many years now, the University has offered employees a comprehensive Private Medical Insurance (PMI) scheme as part of these University benefits. PMI is a valuable addition as it allows University employees to buy medical insurance for themselves and spouse/partner plus immediate dependents.

The University introduced a new PMI scheme with General & Medical (G&M) Healthcare in September 2017. It replaced the previous Bupa scheme.

University of Cambridge employees have access to competitive rates on private medical insurance through G&M. Further details are available in the scheme brochure. The two schemes available, Lifestyle Plus and Everyday Plus, both provide a comprehensive and bespoke range of benefits at competitive rates offering you flexibility and choice.

The table below shows examples of the current G&M monthly premiums and with a £250 excess per person per year.

For those of you who are still covered by our previous provider Bupa, it will still remain open for existing members, however you will also be eligible to join the new G&M scheme at any time (depending on your circumstances). There may savings to be made in switching from Bupa to G&M, however you should give careful consideration to the level of cover you currently have or need and to the costs involved in changing provider before making this decision. Please take advice if necessary.

To sign up or find out further information please call 01223 881779 or email cam.ac@mlhs.co.uk and talk to M&L Healthcare Solutions, who administer our scheme. Please state you are a University of Cambridge employee.
