Academic (Teaching & Scholarship) Career Pathway: Recruitment guidance for institutions
New titles and contracts came into effect for Academic (Teaching and Scholarship) roles on 25 March 2022. While the recruitment process remains largely the same, we ask institutions to note the following, which will support recruitment into these posts:
- The Recruitment Administration System (RAS) and Web Recruitment System (WRS) now support the recruitment of Teaching and Scholarship (T&S) positions. RAS includes new ‘job groups’ for T&S staff, which correspond to the new T&S titles. Institutions should select the relevant RAS Job Group when setting up new positions on RAS, as summarised in the table below:
Officers
| CHRIS Post Title | RAS Job Group |
|---|---|
Professor | (T&S) Professor |
Professor (Grade 11) | (T&S) Professor (Grade 11) |
University Associate Professor (Grade 10) | (T&S) University Associate Professor (Grade 10) |
University Assistant Professor | (T&S) University Assistant Professor |
Others
| CHRIS Post Title | RAS Job Group |
|---|---|
Teaching Professor | Unestablished Teaching Professor |
Teaching Professor (Grade 11) | Unestablished Teaching Professor (Grade 11) |
Associate Teaching Professor (Grade 10) | Unestablished Associate Teaching Professor (Grade 10) |
Assistant Teaching Professor | Unestablished Assistant Teaching Professor |
Senior Teaching Associate | Senior Teaching Associate |
Teaching Associate | Teaching Associate |
- Where prompted to do so, the ‘Vacancy Category’ should be set to “Academic” when setting up a new T&S post.
- When creating the advertisement for T&S posts, the advertisement should state that the post is on the Teaching and Scholarship (T&S) pathway, rather than the Research and Teaching (R&T) pathway.
- A new HR7 Further Information template is available to support the recruitment of T&S posts. The new template includes the Terms of Appointment for both Established and Unestablished roles on the Teaching and Scholarship pathway.
- Outside of the above, both RAS and WRS have sufficient flexibility within the existing functionality to allow Institutions to include role specific information relevant to the new titles and contracts (e.g. probationary periods).
