Guidance on Staff Working Overseas
The guidance set out below has been developed to provide information on the HR implications that should be considered when looking to place staff on international assignments. It is based mainly on experience gained from major research projects and all elements set out in the guidance will be most relevant when planning large international projects involving a group of employees.
However, parts of the guidance will be relevant to all situations where staff may be working internationally, either on a temporary or long-term basis. Therefore, it is recommended that this guidance is reviewed in such cases with due account taken of the likely costs and potentially complex arrangements that may be needed when staff work abroad.
In all cases, advice from the relevant HR School team should be sought at an early stage so that the relevant information can be provided to the Head of Institution for consideration before making any commitments that involve staff work internationally or agreeing to additional staff costs.
