A new Multi-Sports Holiday Club run by the HR Childcare Services has received positive feedback after its first trial.

Children and parents have commented on the ‘excellent’ facilities provided and great access for children to try out new sports.

The club kicked off at the University Sports Centre on 4 August for a two-week trial, for school years 1-7.

There were a number of new sports to try out for the first time including volleyball, squash, badminton and many more.

University Playscheme Assistant Manager Georgina Lawrence -who has been overseeing the events- said: “I think it’s been really successful so far, we’ve been getting really good feedback from the parents and the children.

“The parents have been bringing their children in the morning and saying how much of a great time they’ve been having, which is great news for us.

“On average we’ve had 30 children a day this week -in the first week of launching- and on average we have 40 children a day in the second week, which is brilliant and really good.

“I think the children have really enjoyed being able to use the excellent facilities here, so you’ve got the padel court, squash courts, the athletics track, they’ve really enjoyed learning new sports.”

Florence Turner, a University playworker said: “Being the first time we’ve run this, the children have been in awe of all the facilities they’ve had access here to and the different sports they’ve been able to learn. Fives and Padel, have been some of their favourite sports.”

Catherine Pearson, Head of Childcare services said: “This was our first time running a multi-sports holiday club at the University Sports Centre and we were delighted with the fantastic turnout. The team really enjoyed facilitating the sessions, and it’s been great to provide an alternative venue and activity for both University staff and students.”

In addition to the Multi-Sports Club, the University also holds a Holiday Playscheme (UCHP) based at Trumpington Meadows Primary School, which runs in all state school holidays except Christmas. UCHP October half term bookings will be opening mid-September.
