A detailed review was undertaken to replace the current University Payment System (UPS) for payments to light-touch self-employed and casual workers to identify the improvements required for a more efficient and user-friendly system for institutions.

We have selected Dashboard as the system to manage the administration of casual workers, completely replacing the current UPS2 payment process.

Dashboard will:

  • Provide more efficient processes for engaging, paying and managing casual workers, reducing the amount of time institutions spend on their administration whilst ensuring compliance.
  • Enable a more strategic approach to planning and managing casual workers.
  • Provide information about work, pay and hours against which to make decisions about our casual workforce.
  • Provide a suite of reports to allow accurate and timely monitoring.
  • Provide a seamless single initial registration for workers (including a single right to work check across the University), automation of timesheets and authorisation.

A three-month trial on Dashboard was undertaken by nine departments in March 2020. The Project team are now working through the Implementation Phase of the rollout of Dashboard. The aim is to launch Dashboard for use by institutions in Michaelmas Term 2022.

Demonstrations of Dashboard were held on 18 and 20 January 2022. Institutions can find a recording of one of the sessions, the slides and FAQs below:
