Human Resources

The University Jobs Fair was held on Wednesday 2nd of April at the Student Services building and welcomed over 200 attendees through the doors.

With 14 different stands representing different career paths throughout the University, attendees had the chance to have a look around each of the stands and gain knowledge and advice of whichever career pathway they were interested in.

Stands such as Communications, HR, Estates, Museums and Libraries and TES, held representatives from the University, to help deliver useful information to attendees.

There were also informative sessions, where a Technician presentation was delivered by HR’s Technician Co-Ordinator John Nicolson, Freya Villis, HR’s Organisation Development Consultant delivered a presentation on Development Opportunities and Sam Asbey delivered a presentation on Fundraising and Alumni Relations.

Mariya who attended the Jobs Fair said: “I’m feeling really optimistic.

“It was a great opportunity to see all of the different departments set up, they’ve all been really helpful and I’ve lots of pamphlets from the different stands, in which I can scan all the QR codes now. I’m just getting ready to apply now for a few roles that I found.”

Mariya’s background is in Computer Science and she explained that she is looking towards IT roles, but is also open to different departments.

She said: “I spoke to a few different ones, I also spoke to Clinical Medicine and realised you don’t need to have a background in Clinical Science.

“I’m also open to Temporary Employment as well.”

Saqo also attended the Jobs Fair, she said: “The Jobs Fair was very helpful in terms of preparing me to apply a job in Cambridge University. I learned a lot today about how to construct my CV and the cover letter for Jobs in Cambridge.

“At the moment I’m looking at Research and Administration. I was a Research Fellow in the University of St Andrews in Scotland for around five years.”
