Childcare Services within the HR Division at the University of Cambridge has received their first Ofsted report for its Holiday Playscheme at their new site, Trumpington Meadows Primary School, with the inspector praising staff for creating a “fun and safe environment for children.”
The inspection took place on Wednesday August 20, 2025 and Inspector Courtney McAllister praised staff for their excellent care: “Children are excited as they arrive at playscheme. Staff have formed strong bonds with children to help them feel safe and secure. Children explore various resources and activities to play.”
Parents too have been complimentary of the playscheme, Ms McAllister said: “They share how children learn new skills and comment that children settle well. Parents say staff positively guide children in activities, contributing to a fun and safe environment. As a result, parents feel confident and reassured of the care children receive.”

Catherine Pearson, Head of Childcare Services praised the University Childcare Holiday Playscheme team and said: “Congratulations to the UCHP team for their continued commitment to delivering high-quality care and enriching experiences for children of the University community. The recent Ofsted report reflects the dedication, professionalism, and warmth that our staff bring to every session, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment where children thrive.”
The inspector highlighted how the children are brilliantly guided by the Playworkers: “Children's behaviour is exceptional, and they learn boundaries. This supports children to build confidence and self-esteem in this nurturing environment.

Childcare Services has also recently ran their first Multi-Sports Holiday Club this year, at the University Sports Centre, which received positive feedback after its first trial.
Children and parents have commented on the “excellent” facilities provided and great access for children to try out new sports.
The University Childcare Holiday Playscheme, based at Trumpington Meadows Primary School runs in all state school holidays except Christmas. UCHP October half term bookings are now open until October 17.
