New Policy
All staff

Like all other organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic, the University was required to transform the normal working routines of staff at unprecedented speed and in unprecedented ways.

The various ways we needed to work during the COVID-19 pandemic have now led to an opportunity for the University to explore how we want to work in the future.

One in three participants in May’s Travel Survey reported that they work from a place outside of their normal University workspace, such as their home, on any given day. Most respondents working like this were also spending several days each week working in the University. This type of flexible working arrangement is known as hybrid working.

A new Hybrid Working Policy has been prepared to formalise the way many areas are now working. It aims to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish, whilst recognising that some roles will have tasks that can only be performed on University premises.

This consultation opens on Wednesday 13 July and closes at 5.30pm on Wednesday 7 September 2022.

Please follow the relevent link below:

We would like to hear your views on hybrid working at the University. We also want to hear your views on the draft Policy, which sets out how this type of arrangement could work for staff and institutions. All staff can take part in the consultation. You don’t need to be working this way to share your views, they are still important to this work.

Full details for staff can be found here.

Heads of institutions

We would like to hear your views on the draft Hybrid Working Policy’s suitability for your institution, even if your area does not have a high proportion of staff working in this way.

Full details for heads of institutions can be found here.

You may also wish to respond to the consultation as an individual staff member (see the staff consultation page).

If you have queries regarding the Policy or the consultation itself, please contact the HR Policy Team at
