Individuals sponsored under Tier 2/Skilled Worker Visa and GAE (Temporary Work) visas are permitted, in limited circumstances, to undertake other work in addition to that for which they are sponsored. This is called 'supplementary work'.
Supplementary work conditions
- Supplementary work can be undertaken with any employer and they do not have to be a licensed sponsor.
- The sponsored individual does not have to inform UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) that they are undertaking supplementary work.
- The sponsor is not obliged to undertake any reporting or record keeping duties whilst the sponsored individual is completing supplementary work.
- The sponsored individual must remain employed (or hosted, if they hold a GAE visa) by their current sponsor.
Any work/activity (paid or unpaid) outside that included on the Certificate of Sponsorship must:
- appear on Appendix Immigration Salary List; or
- Skilled Worker visa holders: be within the list of sponsorable SOC codes; or
- GAE visa holders: be in the same profession and at the same professional level (in other words, within the same SOC code) as the work for which they are sponsored.
The work/activity must also be:
- for no more than 20 hours per week; and
- conducted outside of the normal working hours for which the individual is sponsored.
If supplementary work is to be carried out at the University of Cambridge by someone who is not already sponsored by the University, a right to work check must be taken.
