Please see the message below from Professor Eilis Ferran, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Institutional and International Relations, introducing two new development programmes. Further infromation can also be found on the For Staff webpages here.

Dear colleagues,

I would like to bring to your attention two new development programmes. These will help the University to better support its staff, to foster a thriving and inclusive culture, and to tackle issues of inequality, including pay inequality. I encourage all eligible staff to take part.

Firstly, a new Inclusive Leadership Programme for all leaders and managers will begin with a launch event in July, followed by multiple cohorts running throughout the year from Michaelmas Term 2019. Given the University’s strategic priorities, it is critical that those with responsibility for others understand the impact of their decisions and know how to reduce the risk of sex, race or other discrimination, whether explicit or implicit, when making management decisions. Each leader and manager has a key role to play in supporting progression, ensuring pay equality and shaping a positive working environment.

The University is offering this programme for academic, research and professional service leaders to support best practice and further develop their skills in these areas. All those with responsibility for the performance, behaviour and development of others, including leaders of research groups, are encouraged to attend. The programmes are being delivered in partnership with Pearn Kandola, experts in inclusive leadership development.

The launch event for senior leaders and others to find out more about the aims and scope of the programme will take place in July. Please book to attend at: https://www.training.cam.ac.uk/cppd/event/2986351. To book a place on the Inclusive Leadership Programme or to register your interest, please visit https://www.training.cam.ac.uk/cppd/course/ppd-incleap1 (courses starting in September 2019, suitable for all leaders and managers) and https://www.training.cam.ac.uk/cppd/course/ppd-incleapars (course starting in October 2019 , especially for academic and research leaders). Further dates will be added shortly.

Secondly, the first set of workshops for the new Professional Services Career Development Programme will take place in June. This programme to support career development and progression is open to all professional service (non-academic) staff and we particularly welcome women, BAME staff and other under-represented groups to take part. It will include career development workshops and one-to-one coaching to help individuals develop strategies for identifying and achieving their career goals, as well as highlighting tools and networks to support further career development. To book a place or register your interest, follow this link and click on one of the course dates: https://www.training.cam.ac.uk/cppd/course/ppd-incamcareer. Further dates for the academic year 2019-20 will be released in August.

I fully endorse these programmes and encourage you to take the opportunity to participate and support others to do so as well. This is an exciting opportunity for us to take a frank look at how inclusive we currently are and how, by working together, we can make progress towards achieving equality of pay and opportunity at the University.

With best wishes,

Professor Eilís Ferran, FBA

Professor of Company and Securities Law

University Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Institutional and International Relations
