Dear Colleagues,

This October, the University Public Engagement team will present the seventh annual Festival of Ideas – a celebration of the arts, humanities, and social sciences. With hundreds of free debates, workshops, talks, exhibitions, and performances held over two weeks, we are thrilled that the Festival is now one of the most exciting and dynamic occasions in the Cambridge cultural calendar. The events feature academics from the University of Cambridge, as well as renowned guests, including Booker-Prize-winning author Ben Okri, Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, award-winning comedian Bridget Christie, leading economist Ha-Joon Chang and author Alexander McCall Smith.

This year’s Festival will be taking place from 20 October – 2 November. Events will focus on the theme ‘Identities’, exploring the ways in which people understand, construct and express their identity. From a panel discussion on 21st century nationalism to a day of events celebrating the achievements of women, the Festival is guaranteed to have something for everyone! The Festival also includes a huge variety of free events aimed at younger audiences. We would also be grateful if you could pass on this information to all those you think might be interested.
