This page provides a summary of the Hybrid Working Policy. For full details, please refer to the complete Policy on the Hybrid Working Policy page.
What is this Policy about?
The Hybrid Working Policy outlines the University’s approach to Hybrid working. Hybrid working is a type of working arrangement that focusses on where work is undertaken, with some work being done in the workplace and some work being done in a remote working location, often from home.
Who is this Policy for?
All University employees.
What do I need to know?
An employee in a role that allows for hybrid working can choose whether they work on University premises or another remote location. Hybrid working is not mandatory. The Hybrid Working Policy recognises that some tasks can only be performed on University’s premises e.g. face to face teaching.
The Hybrid Working Policy includes information about:
- Health and Safety considerations.
- Situations where hybrid working can be considered as a reasonable adjustment for a disabled employee.
- Expectations of conduct and performance when working in a hybrid way.
Schools, Non-School Institutions and the UAS have determined the parameters for hybrid working in their areas, normally expressed as either:
- A minimum number of days each week an employee should work in their University workspace.
- A minimum percentage of hours that need to be undertaken from a University workspace.
Teams have determined parameters for hybrid working with reference to the agreed approach for their Schools, Non-School Institutions. If you are unsure what hybrid working parameters apply to you, please ask line manager to explain this. Managers will explain hybrid working arrangements to new employees.
Remote working
In limited exceptional circumstances, an employee may be permitted to do all their work from a remote location in the UK see the Hybrid Working Guidance for further details.
Overseas working
The Hybrid Working Policy does not cover working outside of the UK. Please see the International Working Policy for information about working overseas.
Other types of flexible working
For information on other type of flexible working arrangements e.g. part time working or job share arrangements please see the University’s Flexible Working Policy.
