Contribution Reward and Progression Schemes

The University operates a number of contribution reward and progression schemes for different staff categories.

Additional Responsibility Payments

Additional Responsibility Payments are made to employees who are taking on additional responsibilities and at a higher level to those set out in their job description with the agreement of their institution.

Recruitment Incentive Schemes

To assist in recruitment a number of incentive schemes are available including Recruitment Incentive Payments and a Shared Equity Scheme.

Market Pay

The grade of an office or post is determined prior to advertisement using the Higher Education Role Analysis scheme.

Where evidence indicates that similar posts outside the University command a higher salary than that determined by role analysis, it may be appropriate to request a Market Pay (MP) award in order to secure the recruitment or retention of an individual. MP is aimed at assistant and academic-related posts where a particular specialist skill or a market premia exists.

Please refer to the Market Pay guidance document for further information. For further advice please contact your HR Business Manager or HR Adviser.

If you are considering offering a Market Pay award as part of a recruitment package please refer to the information available on the Recruitment webpages.

Advanced Contribution Supplement

In view of the difficulties experienced in defining the ‘market’ in relation to academic posts, where justified, an Advanced Contribution Supplement (ACS) may be awarded as the primary means of supplementing the salary of an academic member of staff for retention or recruitment purposes. An ACS is awarded on the expectation that an individual will reach a certain level of achievement (normally no more than five years ahead).

ACS payments can be awarded to employees on any Academic contract (i.e. those on both Research & Teaching and Teaching & Scholarship contracts).

Please refer to the Advanced Contribution Supplement guidance document for further information. For further advice please contact your HR Business Manager or HR Adviser.

If you are considering offering an Advanced Contribution Supplement as part of a recruitment package please refer to the information available on the Recruitment webpages.
